BASEMENT INSULATION
There are two main areas for insulation in the basement. Underneath the concrete slab and on the walls of the foundation.
In this home we have chosen to insulate underneath the basement slab with 3″ of spray foam. This reduces the amount of heat lost through the basement floor. By using spray foam we also reduce air leakage and radon infiltration.
Although there are some differences between the video below and 104 Forsey Avenue the video below shows a good demonstration of using spray foam for basement applications.
The walls of the basement have two layers of batt insulation. One layer runs vertically between the studs. The other layer runs horizontally behind the studs. This helps to prevent air leakage.
